How Do You Feel About Free Advertising?

Postby captkirk » Mon Apr 03, 2006 4:19 pm

Hi All,

When I started using FREE advertising several years ago, many people felt that Traffic Exchanges, Free For All (FFA), Classifieds, Safelists, and other Free Methods Of Advertising were a waste of time and effort and some of the worst form of advertising on the net.

So, How Do You Feel About Free Advertising?

But, before you answer, here's some of my results with using ONLY free advertising:

* In March, I directly signed-up 230 members in one program that I promote.

* I have grown a downline of over 14,000+ members in another program.

* My forum have OVER 900+ members and growing daily.

* I'm Listed on Michael Rasmussen's Top 25 Referrers List out of 100,000+ members at Free Advertising Forum (The forum Mike Filsaime got his idea for his Advertising Blog).

* I moderated Ron and Rick Davies "Free Marketing Methods" forum at CBGuide after they seen my results with Free Advertising. (Harvey Segal (Mr Supertips) use to moderate a forum at CBGuide while I was moderating Free Marketing Methods. Also, Michael Rasmussen and Mike Filsaime have their endorsement on Rick and Ron Davies's 1stpromotion sale page.)

* And the list goes on...

Anyway, How Do You Feel About Free Advertising?

Not just free advertising - free everything. I built a whole website without spending a dime -- sell hundreds of products that don't cost a cent to sell, and now I use free promotions.

It isn't the cost of the ad that gets you the sales -- it's the amount of exposure to people who want your products that gets sales. I myself think that unless you have money to burn it is completely senseless to buy something that you can get free. Why pay per click, etc. when just as many people in a forum would be interested in your product?

And when you are getting free exposure -- you don't risk the chance of getting scammed - paying per click? How do you really know that those are honest clicks? Do you want someone reading your ad because they are getting paid to do it or because they are interested in your ad?

Same with websites -- you going to pay a Guru 30 bucks a month to give you a clone website you can call your own because you sprung for the domain and suffer the reduced traffic a copycat site gets -- or are you going to build one free that is equal to or not better and is original so gets better traffic odds anyway??

Wake up call folks.

Sal I totally agree 100% with you I went on a total 100% free marketing diet and I am getting way better results than paying.

Hi Onomoney,

I have been on that FREE marketing diet for years and get better results than paying for advertising.

Why?

When it come to FREE advertising I don't have any limits except for time and effort.

But, when it comes to PAID advertising I had to limit my advertising budget to what I could afford, which limited how much advertising I could do.

BTW, I jdo consider FREE advertising with the option to upgrade to be FREE advertising even if you pay a monthly membership fee.

Free Advertising Works!

Postby slgpromotions » Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:07 am

Hi everyone, I think free advertising is great and I know it works. I have experienced it personally and have had many of the members of my forums come back to tell me the increase in sales and new sign-ups to their programs and businesses as a direct result of posting on our forums! I've had members give me what would equate to paid advertising as a way of saying thank you!!! And it was them insisting to do something for me because I shared the forum and free advertising with them. So free advertising for me is a no-brainer. I have been convinced over the past year how well it works, how bout you??

Hi Robin,

If the program was so great, I can't see why he would charge his student that much money for the package.

Unless, he make his money off selling the package and less money form using his own system.

Go figure...

Hello fellow members,
I'm really glad I found this forum and many others like it because I hope to learn a lot about not just free but "effective" advertising! :D

First, to answer the question of the thread, I can't really say much for any form of advertising, free and paid, since I got very little results from both. Classifieds, FFA's (just filled my mailbox with junk), safelists, solo ads, none worked very well for me.

I've gotten some tips already on posting effectively in forums, and I found some free resources that look great, like Linkscout. I've heard that ezine solo ads are effective too, but I don't have the money to invest right now, so I plan to concentrate on forums and other free resources. Since some of the members who have posted to this thread seem to be very knowledgeable and successful, I would appreciate any advice you care to share with me :D

Thanks!

I have a freebies forum that is now 3 months old. I could not afford to sink a bunch of money into advertising so the first thing that I did when I went live was to put ads on every free classifieds and free advertising site that I could find. I ran into a "How To" list that Captkirk had posted on some forum (I still have it) and doing this got my name on the board so to speak, lol. Google started recognizing my URL from those sites and that helped a lot.

Since then I trade links with as many freebies sites as I can and I have a makeup gift bag promotion that I run. The makeup promo costs next to nothing. My site is JAMMIN' and I'm in the process of signing up for my affiliates so that I can make my homepage into a cyber shopping mall.

Honest to God, the first thing that I did was plaster my URL on every free ad site that I could find.

The future looks bright.

I really like posting on free ads.
Posting on free ads is part of my daily routine because:
- easy way to get indexed in the search engines
- to generate more traffic
- a way to make extra money
- advertise my product/s for free
- I enjoy having a conversation here! :P

And a lot more.

Happy posting!

Rahul Majumdar - Free versus Paid Advertising.

Postby rmmtl » Sun Aug 06, 2006 12:04 am

Hi Everyone,

Great topic, one that deserves a lot of our attention and focus.
All things being equal, I think everyone will opt for free
advertising. The ultimate question as I see it is:

Is it effective advertising, i.e., what is the return on my
investment?

Here I want to be careful. For free advertising, I am likely to measure
the time spent posting threads on forums, blogging, online chatting, etc.
versus referrals gained (and eventually, cash :) ) If my time:referral
ratio has been met, then my "free" campaign was a success.

With paid advertising, we need to measure cost per lead, cost per
referral, and pure return (e.g. this $100 ad led to 10 leads, 2 sales, and a
$20 per month residual). For those of us working for a living and unable
to devote a lot of time to online marketing, effective paid advertising can
be a reasonable option. So long as we can afford it and target an
appropriate clientele.

With all the high profile marketers and programs promoting free
advertising these days, there must be something to it. Together with
low-cost, targeted advertising (assuming we know how to target LOL),
everyone should succeed.

What can you afford - time or money?

Thank you.

Free Advertising

Postby hititbig1 » Sun Aug 06, 2006 2:30 am

Like Sweetlass said, posting in forums is a great way to get indexed. Not just your website, but the thread as well. I have a feeling that this thread will rank high for "Free Advertising", for example.

The word "free" is in the URL, as well as the title, and sub titles. The keywords "free and "advertising" are used at or near the recommended ratio. The keywords are displayed in bold print in some cases, and it's a thread of interest, so it will likely get more responses where others will use the keywords "free" and "advertising" as well. I see no reason why it wouldn't rank high if we stay on topic.

I have 2 free advertising forums right now, and I plan to create several more in the near future. Though if everyone understood the power of the reply, one forum would be more than enough. Put simply, if we all work together and target a keyword, we can rank high for almost any of them. I suggest subscribing to a thread that will spark the interest of others. The more replies the better. If you can't think of a subject for your post, use the original subject with "re:" in front of it.

Free advertising is more rewarding than many realize, and if done correctly, can generate a massive amount of traffic.

P.S. Set up your Signatures!!!

I agree you have time or money. I am a stay at home mom so I have time, I am also a tightazzz. I have yet to try paid ads other than I do make business cards to send out in MomPacks (that has worked great). We just let my youngest daughter register for our forum so she can learn to post.... She doesn't have "life experience" but she has learned that every time she post in word games, jokes, music... her name and sig line is there. When she does find her own business she will be ahead of the game. So watch out for the new generation of FREE Advertisers - they are coming!

I don't think they would allow that.

Yes, free advertising works very well. I also use free traffic exchanges.
Why pay if you can get it free?
I have never paid for any type of advertising and all the ebooks I have collected on marketing or other business strategies were all given to me free. I refuse to pay for information or ads that I can find and post on my own. If you pay for advertising, you get less profit because you're spending it on more and more ads.

I have to agree... Free Advertising gets just about the same results as paid advertising. Paid does have some advantages generally, but why bother if the results are the same.

I use FREE the most personally unless the paid is a really good deal. I like the lifetime memberships rather than the monthly payments.

Both free and paid ads have mixed results as to response rate, would you not agree? What will work for some, will not work for others. What if a program came along with the concept that a person could learn the very basice of networking and at the same time a person that has been networking for a while, also teach in depth the areas that they are weak in, to make them more proficient in their weak areas. What I am talking about is a group of like minded individuals that will pass their expertise along with hands on training to how to most effictivly network, would you like to see that?

Hi Layton,

If You talk about a group of like minded individuals that will pass their expertise along with hands on training to how to most effictivly network, as You said in Your post then why pay for it?

You can get all the information You need for free by using forums I would help anyone that asked me and i am sure that all of the other site admins would too and have seen many examples of this.

Join any of the many great forums that are out there and ask for the information You require and someone will give it to You. Dont pay the so called "gurus" who have got rich by selling what You can get for nothing.

Examples of this are when "Captkirk" had his posts deleted from one marketing forum because it was about "free" advertising but the forum was run by people who had got rich by selling advertising to newbies who didnt know better..

I have been quite succesfull at online marketing but have never spent a penny on advertising and never would. Everything You need to build an online business is available for nothing other than a bit of effort and a bit of thought.

If You want to start advertising then join forums first of all and I am NOT advertising mine it is just that forums are one of the best places that You can go to promote Your business and then ask questions about anything You dont understand because somebody WILL answer You for FREE You do not need to pay "gurus" (There must be another name for guru but it will be too rude to post here)

If You read this and You dont understand something then please PM me and I will try to answer Your question, If I cant then I will find someone that can but rule number one is DO NOT PAY You can get all the help advice and information You need for nothing just dont be afraid to ask.

best wishes

I totally agree

Postby mikeswealth » Wed Nov 01, 2006 10:23 am

I totally agree,
Free advertising is definitely the way
to go.

I have just started my forum, and using free
methods only, I have brought in over 70
members in about 1 week.

The best thing is, it cost me nothing to do.

My advice is just advertise everywhere... forums,
free classifieds, ffa, safelists....just get your site
out there.

The more ads you place, the more links to your
site, which will increase search engine ranks.
Happy Posting

Free Ads Rule!

Postby Ken4e » Tue Nov 14, 2006 6:29 pm

As an un-employed newbie, I didn't have much choice but to try free advertising....
Luckily, I happened across an old friend who has been selling online since Moby Dick was a minnow... :D
He was able to steer me to some good free ad sources.
I certainly haven't "arrived" yet, but I am beginning to see results...and i haven't spent a dime on ads.

I am so thankful that there even IS the option of free advertising. I don't have money to spend on ads that may or may not produce any results. There's another word for that: GAMBLING!

Free advertising is awesome! Why pay for something you can get for free? Too bad there are so many spammers out there - it makes it very hard for us honest posters to get ahead. We can only hope that the smart consumers will join those of who are genuine and not the bots.

Thanks Captkirk - you're swell!

I have used both free and paid advertising and have had more of a response with free.

I joined a paid advertising site for more money than I care to admit and have got nothing from it so far.

Bet I won't do that again!! :(

I've been doing a ton of research and it seems to me that forums and blogs seem to be far more effective than classifieds. I've posted to dozens of classifieds and have even installed a Power Submitter, with no results. :(

It's seems like 99% of it all is promotion. I've just gotten into affiliate marketing and I think that it's very difficult so far. Interesting, but difficult.

I love free advertising so much that i started my own forum to provide a quality SEO friendly advertising forum. I still promote in forums and will continue to do so. If you have a free advertising forum and i'm not a member send me a PM and i'll register.

Now, i also use classifieds and safelists but not as much as i should to get decent result's. Building backlinks is what i do for my forum and some times i throw in a article or two for a good long term backlink.

If you own a website, blog or forum in which you run/maintain, i'd suggest submitting to some web directories. Since the paid directory scandel a year ago, i sold my paid directory and just submit the forum to free quality directories. Some directories put out good traffic and some don't but i'm looking for backlinks to my forum.

Most of the traffic i get to my advertising forum is from search engines and other sites linking to me. I don't even promote my forum in threads but have a link in my siggie. (The siggie is a free way to advertise) Just contribute to a community and curious people will checkout your links. :)

One thing all website owners need to do is make sure there site is SEO friendly so it'll get indexed well along with some traffic. A site with cool design and not continually promote 5 days a week will just die eventually.

Sorry for poor grammar, i'm just typing what i'm thinking. All i can say is I LOVE FREE ADVERTISING. I've been posting on forums since early 2005 and thought i'd open my own forum but make it SEO friendly and have a active admin. Captkirk is a great active admin of this forum and has lot's of tips and proof that free advertising works.

Free advertising is a great help especially for those who are in a very tight budget like me. Though I am not so sure the value it has for my sites as free advertising sites gets crowded day by day. With this, your newly posted ads will be placed at the bottom of the page and/or on page 2 downward after a minute after you click the submit button.

Greetings!

With all the various forms of Advertising Methods out there today, and the many different promoters of each it makes it very difficult for us Advertisers to pick a successful one or two to have to pay for, and hence, causes us to try out the Free ones first to see what works and what don't.... In doing so, some of us gain some success and continue using the Free Advertising Sources - For me, getting something for nothing is a much better feeling than getting the same thing and having to pay for it?!!!

FREE in many cases do NOT mean not-good or uneffective, and as such makes Free Advertising a wonderful thing! The reason for some failure is not the type of Advertising Free or paid, it's the type of Product or Service been provided, when we see something good, be it from Free or Paid Advertising we would look at it and eventually participate in it or even purchase it...

This Forum is a form of Free Advertising, and if utilized as it is intended too, which is read each other Posts, we may all be exposed to something new, something different, something great, and eventually get involved with it, which would/could/should make us all gain some element of success in whatever we are doing here?!

That was an excellent question, and i hope i stayed on course with my response!

Regards,

Romel Alexander

Free Advertising is really great. You'll get traffic and backlinks the same with the paid advertising. Sometimes in paid advertising you need more money without ROI.

Hi All,

When I first started my online store I was trying to get it seen to as many people as possible. I had no money, so I was new to advertising online. I did link exchanges for a while, then went to faa sites and blogs, and so on.

I have had very great success with it. People would tell me that it too was a waste of time and it wouldn't work. I worked from home and still do. I would advertise daily and in time I was earning between $300 to $400 a month income from free advertising alone. The only real cost to me was my business cards which was $45.

I even helped other people advertise their businesses on my stores front page as paid sponsors. They contacted me to advertise on my site. They pay me for a link on my site, and they have had great increase in their sales and revenue due to advertising with me.

all in all I have great success in the free advertising all my sites. I am a true believer it does work.
